For too long our borough had been forgotten. But all that is changing.
Since being your Member of Parliament I have used every opportunity to bang the drum for Burnley, Padiham and our surrounding villages. And we've seen some major success.
£20 MILLION LEVELLING UP FUNDING SECURED - October 2021
This £20 million investment will be truly transformative. It will open up yet more opportunities for young people to get a world class education by linking Burnley College with an expanded Uclan campus, improve the public realm from the Turf to the town centre, driving fans from around the country into the heart of Burnley to support our hospitality businesses, and further improve the transport links with a new bridge connecting both platforms at Manchester Road train station - something I promised I would see delivered.
And all this is on top of the work being done to transform the old Pioneer Place in to a modern and attractive retail and leisure destination which the Government has already invested £3.6 million in to through the Getting Building Fund.
£3.4 MILLION SECURED THROUGH THE UK SHARED PROSPERITY FUND - December 2022
This is money that can be used to further regenerate our area. And comes on top of the £20 million we secured through the Levelling Up Fund.
My whole mission in Parliament is to get Westminster focused on our borough - something I’ll continue to do night and day. This latest announcement shows that it is paying off.
We need a strong local voice who speaks up for us and secures investment on this scale. Because for far too long we’d be forgotten in London. Not anymore!
£12 MILLION SECURED THROUGH FURTHER LEVELLING UP FUNDING - January 2023
This has been a brilliant team effort which has seen Lancashire MP's working with the Conservative County Council to put together and deliver a bid for £50 million in total - £12m of which is coming directly to our area.
Included are improvements to bus services across the borough, which will see real time passenger information displayed at bus stops for the first time, transport hubs developed at Burnley Bus Station and Burnley Manchester Road Railway Station; and new ‘liveable neighbourhoods’ created in parts of our borough needing regeneration.
I’m looking forward to working with the County Council in delivering the tangible benefits this amount of extra funding will bring to the people of Burnley and Padiham! And thank them for the constructive way in which they've worked with me and other MPs on this.
