16,200 vulnerable and low-income households in Burnley and Padiham will this week receive a third Cost of Living payment from the Government worth £300.
The third instalment forms part of a record £104 billion cost of living support package rolled out by the Government to help struggling families. It includes the cost-of-living payments as well as the uprating of benefits by 6.7% and pensions by 8.5% this year.
The payment will be sent out automatically with recipients not needing to apply to receive it.
Commenting, Burnley and Padiham’s MP Antony Higginbotham said:
This next £300, which forms part of a total package worth £900 per family is cushioning the blow for over 16,000 families in Burnley and Padiham. And comes it comes on top of the wider work Government has done to halve inflation, which has been the best way to help everyone with the cost of living.
But as I’ve said many times, long term financial security comes through work. And is why the National Insurance tax cut for all workers in Burnley and Padiham was so welcomed.
Commenting, Mel Stride, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, said:
The economy has turned a corner, and with inflation falling we are providing millions of the most vulnerable households with another significant cash boost.
Our fair approach to welfare is underpinned by a belief that the best way to secure long-term financial security is through work.
This is why we have cut taxes for over 27 million working people and have launched a £2.5 billion Back to Work Plan to help thousands more people off benefits and into jobs.
