In an effort to address historically higher levels of unemployment in Burnley, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is hosting a Jobs Fair at Burnley's Job Centre this week. The “New Year New Start Jobsfair” is aimed at those looking to get into work and will see businesses offering employment opportunities.
The event which will run from 9am – 12pm this Thursday will see companies from various sectors actively seeking candidates to fill their vacant positions.
A member of Antony Higginbotham MP’s team, is also set to attend, building on the work he’s been doing to tackle unemployment issues in the area - and to help with any questions those in attendance have.
Commenting Antony said:
Historically we know that our area has had higher unemployment than elsewhere in the country, but that’s something I’ve been working to see reversed. Because having a job, and gaining skills really transforms a person’s life.
There are jobs available. So, for those who can work but aren’t currently in employment, please do come down to the Job Centre on Thursday morning as there’ll be a number of vacancies on offer.
The event is being run in the main foyer of the Job Centre in Hammerton Building, Victoria Street, BB11 1DD. Arriving early is recommended with doors opening at 9am. All are welcome.
