A Burnley group that seeks to bring people together through crafting say they are “over the moon” to have been awarded £5,650 from a lottery grant.
The crafting group who meet at St Catherine’s Church on Todmorden Road each week secured the funding to buy more equipment.
Commenting Pam, who leads the group said:
It’s brilliant that we’ve been awarded this money as it will make all the difference. Without it we wouldn’t be able to have the arts and crafts group. Not only has the grant allowed us to purchase new arts and crafts equipment but it’s allowed us to secure the room for a year along with two laptops.
We’re such a welcoming group with an open door too. So please do, if you’re free and are looking for something fun to do, come down and join us. The more the merrier!
The group meets at 12:30pm every Tuesday at St Catherine’s Community centre on Mary Street in Burnley (just behind the church) and costs £3 per session, which includes refreshments.
In the lead up to Christmas the group made wreaths and are now looking towards Valentine’s Day by crafting teddies.
Local MP Antony Higginbotham, who was invited to the group this week said:
It’s great to see what Pam and the team are doing at St Catherine’s. It’s a real community spirit down there and the crafting idea is just brilliant. Because whether you’re a beginner, or a seasoned pro, Pam and the group are so welcoming. I’d encourage anybody who is interested to just turn up.
The money provided by the National Lottery has been used to stock up on wool, paint, cardboard, felt, glue, scissors, and all things craft. They will be used to create opportunities for local people to come together, learn new crafts, and provide a safe environment for people of all ages to meet.
