Households in Burnley and Padiham are set to benefit from the launch of the Great British Insulation Scheme.
In a significant move towards a more energy-efficient and cost-effective future, the Government has announced the launch of a new scheme to insulate homes across the country.
Over 20,000 homes within Burnley and Padiham could be eligible dependant on household income. The upgrades include roof, loft or cavity wall insulation which could cut energy bill by an average of £400 a year.
The £1 billion drive will help those most in need heat their home for less.
Those eligible for support under the Great British Insulation Scheme include families in council tax bands A-D in England, A-E in Scotland and Wales, with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below.
There are currently 40,910 properties in Council Tax bands A-D in Burnley and Padiham with the most recent EPC data indicated 75% of the borough’s properties had an energy efficiency ratings that falls within bands D-G.
Commenting local MP Antony Higginbotham MP who has spoken about energy bills several times in Parliament said:
This scheme will see thousands of homes better insulated which will reduce energy bills for residents in Burnley and Padiham. And that has to be welcomed.

Alongside great initiatives like this, I’ll keep pushing the case for home grown energy in Parliament. Because having energy security can only come from generating our own. This shouldn’t be a loose aim but an absolute priority for families and business right across Burnley and Padiham.

Our Great British Insulation Scheme will help hundreds of thousands of people, including some of the most vulnerable in society, get the upgrades their homes need, while cutting their energy bills.
The Great British Insulation Scheme encompasses a wide array of energy efficiency upgrades, including:
- Cavity wall insulation
- Solid wall insulation (internal or external)
- Loft insulation
- Flat or pitched roof insulation
- Underfloor insulation
- Solid floor insulation
- Park home insulation
- Room-in-roof insulation
To potentially qualify for this program, interested households must meet the following criteria:
- Possess an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of D-G. Residents can check their EPC rating here.
