The Member of Parliament for Burnley and Padiham Antony Higginbotham has completed the first week of his annual Summer Surgery Tour. As part of his mission to hold a surgery within one mile of every home within the borough he’s been meeting and chatting to people from right across the constituency.
Having visited a number of parks, community centres and Finsley Gate Wharf Antony has heard issues related to business, housing, the environment, and illegal immigration.
Reflecting on the week, Antony said:
In my view too many politicians expect people to come to them, whether it’s to raise an issue or just to share views. But that’s never been my approach. For me, getting as close as I can to where is convenient for residents is paramount. It’s why I do the summer surgery tour, and why most of my surgeries throughout the year are at supermarkets. And that’s what these next few weeks are all about.
They help me gauge views, share opinions, discuss hot topics, and – most importantly – see what I can do to help with issues that are affecting our friends and neighbours.
The MP has more surgeries next week, with full published on his website, www.antonyhig.co.uk/events, or on his Facebook and Instagram pages.
