When I saw we should have control over our borders, I mean it. So on legal and illegal migration, will you give me your views on how the immigration and border system should work?
After we left the EU I voted for a new, Australian-style points based system for legal immigration which has been working well. Ensuring we get the skills we need here at home, for the sectors we need them in, without undercutting wages.
But the situation in the English Channel, with illegal immigration, is unacceptable. It is putting lives at risk, and it's only by ending illegal immigration that we can give greater support to those fleeing genuine persecution and welcome those who are able to contribute to our economy.
As your MP, I have backed the Government's new agreement with Albania so the vast majority of failed Albanian claimants can be removed, with weekly flights until all failed Albanian applicants in the backlog are sent home. And I have also supported a new permanent, unified Small Boats Operational Command in the Channel, with 700 new staff, so we can tackle this issue before boats reach our shores.
But more needs to be done. We’re changing the law where it needs changing, using cheaper accommodation sites instead of hotels, and clearing the initial asylum backlog by doubling the number of caseworkers.
And I am fully behind the Prime Minister when he says that if someone has entered the UK illegally, they should not be able to remain - and should be swiftly detained and removed.
It is clear that the global asylum system is broken. We're seeing increased illegal migration flows due to conflict and humanitarian crises, as well as an expanding network of people smuggling gangs. Our job is to fix it with a new immigration system - and your views can help shape that.
We're sending foreign criminals home. We're removing illegal immigrants. We're breaking up smuggling gangs to protect the lives of those they endanger. But we've got more to do. So why not share your priorities?
