Burnley and Padiham MP Antony Higginbotham used his appearance in the House of Commons on Thursday to bring to the attention of the Leader of the House the issues residents have with potholes.
Mentioning local roads throughout Burnley and Padiham he said that:
One of the issues that blights so many of us is potholes. In my constituency, that includes roads such as Talbot Drive, Mill Hill Lane, Stockbridge Road and Burnham Gate, but I am very pleased that Conservative-controlled Lancashire County Council has made tackling them a key priority.
Only last month the Government announced a new £500m fund to improve the state of local roads, which is the second instalment of a £2.5bn Pothole Fund.
Here in Lancashire, the County Council is set to receive £35 million to improve the roads with £12.8 million to be spent exclusively on fixing potholes.
Commenting afterwards Antony said:
Potholes have been mentioned to me a number of times by residents over the past few weeks and whilst this is a County Council issue I said I would raise it on behalf of the residents.
We have great Conservative Councillors dealing with this across the borough but I’m ready to do everything I can to help them with it.
