Today marks one year since I was elected to represent you in Parliament. And what a year it has been! None of us could have anticipated what 2020 had in store but throughout I’ve tried my best to stand up for Burnley and Padiham at every opportunity. It remains the most humbling job and I’m enormously grateful to everyone for the trust put in me, and in awe of the many people I’ve met who go above and beyond.
This video gives a brief snapshot of the last 12 months, although there’s so much more than could be crammed in.
Our shared priorities are what I was focused on last December, and what I remain focused on today:
- Delivering Brexit
- Levelling UP in Burnley and Padiham
- Bringing attention to our local health facilities
- Delivering flood defences for Padiham
- Upgrading our local transport links
- Promoting our Borough
- Helping residents in need
- Supporting businesses through Covid-19
And that’s on top of:
- Recruiting hundreds more police officers for Lancashire Police, and ensuring we get our fair share of them in Burnley and Padiham.
- Introducing a points-based immigration system.
- Stopping vexatious claims against UK soldiers.
- Voting for the longest and largest funding settlement in the history of the NHS.
- Supporting livelihoods through an unprecedented level of economic support.
- Visiting as many businesses in Burnley and Padiham as possible.
- Providing the Council with funding to support struggling families, and helping vulnerable residents with Burnley Together.
- Toughening up sentencing laws.
- Cutting foreign aid.
- Seeing Burnley College voted the number 1 college in the country.
I also want to say a huge thank you to those in my team who work tirelessly to support me and, in turn, the thousands of people who have contacted me looking for help. They’re all fantastic!
