Antony has visited another two schools as part of his year long School Tour. Both Worsthorne Primary School and Casterton Primary Academy welcomed Burnley and Padiham’s MP for a school assembly, a mock Parliament with year 6s and a Q&A with the school council / ambassadors.
Over the last 12 months Antony has been all over the borough visiting our local primary schools to talk about his role, hold ‘mock parliaments’ and encourage young people to be interested in politics and democracy.
Commenting on his latest visits he said:
I’ve wanted to visit as many schools as I could this year. Because during the pandemic that just wasn’t possible and I think speaking with the pupils about our democratic system is important.
Nothing like this ever happened when I was at school and I think it’s good to get children engaged. The tour has proved a great way for them to ask me all about the workings of Parliament and every school I’ve attended has really enjoy these mock Parliaments.
At both Worsthorne and Casterton, the children became so involved, with confidence levels growing as the sessions began. I’d like to thank staff at both for the warmest of welcomes!
Antony will be visiting more schools in the run up to Christmas, when he plans to announce his Christmas Card Competition winner which is chosen from a school pupil in Burnley and Padiham.
