Haffners Pies have been recognised with an invitation to attend a special reception at 10 Downing Street this week.
Invited by Burnley and Padiham’s Member of Parliament Antony Higginbotham, Haffners Managing Director Ted Crockett arrived at 10 Downing Street for the Community Food and Farming Champions’ Reception.
He met with Government leaders, including Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Steve Barclay, and representations from the world of food from across the country.
The event, hosted by the Environment Secretary saw those in the sector come together to talk about community food and farming.
Speaking about the event Antony Higginbotham MP said:
Haffners are an iconic local Burnley brand going from strength to strength. And so, it was great to welcome Ted down to Parliament this week to speak about the business’ continued success.
To have them attend a special reception at Number 10 recognising all the work they do to promote local food produce from our area was brilliant too.
Because to me they're genuinely one of the best pie makers in the country! And we should be incredibly proud that they’re here in Burnley.
Commenting on the visit Ted Cockett, Managing Director of Haffners, said:
I was delighted to be invited to join Antony Higginbotham at 10 Downing Street to champion food and farming in our area and to get a taste of the workings of Parliament.
Haffners has been an iconic Burnley brand since 1889 and we are proud to be continuing the family's good work within the town and beyond. As both pie makers and butchers, we are passionate about local sourcing and supply chains, so to be recognised for this by industry peers is a great honour.
We thank Antony for the opportunity, and will keep flying the flag for community food and farming within East Lancashire.
Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP said:
It was hugely enjoyable to meet so many people involved in putting world-class food on our tables and caring for our countryside at the 10 Downing Street farming reception, along with their local Conservative MPs.
By coming together to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing our rural economy and fishing industry, we can ensure we do everything possible to support the sectors, bolstering this country’s food security while also protecting and enhancing our treasured natural heritage for the benefit of generations to come.
Only the Conservatives have a plan for our rural and coastal communities. Keir Starmer snipes from the sidelines but has no plan for safeguarding this country’s food security. A Labour government would take our rural economy and fishing industry back to square one.
Minister of State for Food, Farming and Fisheries, Rt Hon Mark Spencer MP said:
Our farmers and fishing industry are crucial to keeping this country fed, so it was great to meet so many of those who work in both sectors, and the Conservative MPs who represent them, at Downing Street. This Conservative government will always listen to the concerns of our rural and coastal communities and is committed to working with them to help them thrive.
