Giant Leap Nursery based in Burnley have been recognised with an invitation to attend a special reception at 10 Downing Street.
Invited by Burnley and Padiham’s Member of Parliament Antony Higginbotham, Giant Leap Senior Nursery Manager Jade Taylor arrived at Number 10 for the Childcare Champions’ Reception.
There she met with Government leaders, including the Minister for Children, Families and Wellbeing, and representatives from the childcare sector from across the country.
Hosted by the Minister responsible for the rollout of extra childcare, it saw those present discuss the future of the industry as reforms to the way working parents can access support is being implemented.
Speaking about the event Antony Higginbotham MP said:
We’ve so many brilliant childcare providers within Burnley and Padiham. And it was great to see Giant Leap nursery flying the flag for our area in Downing Street.
As we bring in changes to extend free childcare provision to working parents it’s important that we listen to those within the industry, and this was another opportunity to do just that.
Having seen the work that takes place at Giant Leap I really believe that they deserved to be recognised as a community childcare champion. That’s the reason I put Jade’s name forward to the Prime Minister to attend this reception.
Commenting on the visit Karen Hutchinson from Giant Leap who travelled to Parliament with Jade said:
Jade and myself travelled to Westminster to meet with our local MP Antony Higginbotham, where we were given a private tour of the Houses of Parliament and a chance to talk all things Early Years and SEND in Burnley.
Jade was then taken to 10 Downing Street where she joined the Community Childcare Champions for afternoon tea and a chat with David Johnston, 'Minister for Children'.
This was an amazing opportunity to voice our thoughts on Early years, recruitment, SEND provision and support for the vulnerable children we look after. It was the most amazing day and really surreal to be sat in the ministers lounge drinking tea on a Tuesday afternoon.
