Burnley General Hospital has some of the most advanced surgical robots in the country and so today in Parliament, during the launch of the Health and Care White Paper, Antony asked the Health Secretary to look at making our borough a regional centre of excellence for medical technology.
The proposed changes in the Health and Care White Paper is all about bringing health and social care services closer together to improve care for residents in Burnley and Padiham. And a vital part of that will be the use of cutting edge technology.
We're already leading the way in this field - so much so that the Health Secretary is looking to visit to see for himself - and so building on this will not only improve healthcare for residents but also free up time for the dedicated staff who work in both health and social care.
Speaking in the chamber Antony said,
I give my overwhelming support to these proposals, particularly the drive for innovation and technology, which will improve not only access to care but care outcomes for patients. The Secretary of State will be aware that in Burnley General Hospital, we already have some advanced surgical robots that provide incredible care. Could I urge him to look, as part of these reforms, at how we can make sites such as Burnley Hospital regional centres of excellence in areas such as surgical robotics?
