Christian leaders from across the country gathered in Parliament this week for a National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast which took place in Westminster Hall.
Focusing on the thought-provoking theme of 'The Power of Forgiveness in Public Life' both Pete Baker from the Life Church in Burnley and Reverend Paul Benfield attended as guests of Burnley and Padiham’s MP Antony Higginbotham.
Speaking after the prayer breakfast Pete Baker said:
As a local Church leader with a deep passion for Burnley & East Lancashire it was a real privilege to join with Church leaders and a record number of MPs for the National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast.
The theme was forgiveness & reconciliation, a message that seems as relevant as ever and a theme that runs right through the Christian gospel message.
I was also delighted to take a tour of the Houses of Parliament and get an insight into the work our local MP is doing to serve out community.
Organised by ‘Christian’s In Parliament’ the event was attended by 180 MPs, in addition to the Prime Minister, both Speakers of the House of Commons and House of Lords, and Dr. Amy Orr-Ewing as keynote speaker.
Commenting on the event Burnley and Padiham’s MP said:
The Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast was such an inspiring and thought-provoking event. Westminster Hall has been the setting for so many of our nation’s big moments over the last 1000 years. And it was brilliant to see church leaders from right across the country gather in this space to recognise the profound impact Christianity makes to national life within the UK.
This year I had the privilege of welcoming both Pete Baker from the Life Church in Burnley and Reverend Paul Benfield too. We were joined by the Prime Minister, and both Speakers from the House of Commons and House of Lords. A special thanks needs to go out to Christian’s in Parliament for organising this.
