Local MP Antony Higginbotham has spoken about the two new endoscopy rooms that are to open at Burnley General Hospital next year as he raised investment levels with the Minister of State for for Health and Secondary Care Will Quince MP
Speaking in Parliament Antony said:
The East Lancashire CDC already includes Burnley Hospital, and as part of that, we're opening two new endoscopy rooms in the spring. But myself, residents and the Trust know that the local hospital can do even more to reduce the COVID backlog with the right government investment.
So, would he agree to meet with me to discuss phase nine of the hospital's development, which would bring a brand-new radiology suite?
Responding Minister Will Quince MP said:
Well, I thank my friend for his question. He's a strong champion for Burnley, and I congratulate Burnley General Teaching Hospital on the incredible innovative work that they are doing.
He's right. CDC roll out of 91 out of 160 is a tremendous effort. But we do want to go further and I'd be delighted to meet my honourable friend to discuss his plans further.
Speaking after the debate Antony said:
It’s great news that we’re seeing more investment at Burnley General, particularly into two new endoscopy rooms. Alongside the recruitment of more doctors and nurses which we’re seeing locally, these will significantly increase the number of tests that can be carried out at the hospital.
But I want to see even more investment as I think we can go much further, especially in reducing the covid backlogs. That’s why I asked for a meeting with the Minister to talk about phase nine of the hospital’s investment plan. This will see a brand new radiology centre, linking up with endoscopy and the surgical theatres to create a diagnostic hub, meaning patients have their healthcare needs identified and treated quickly.
It’s important that we continue to build on our local NHS provision so we can provide world class care to people all across our borough. That’s where our focus needs to be.
